What stays in your browser
Importing a manuscript, converting it, previewing it, designing a cover, card, image, or video, and exporting files all happen in your browser. That content is not sent to us unless you sign in and choose to save a project or publish a page.
What we collect
- Account details. When you create an account: your name, email address, and a password, which is stored as a hash by our authentication provider. Sign-in creates a session cookie.
- Saved work. Projects you save to the cloud (manuscript text, settings, cover image) and book pages you create, until you delete them.
- Usage counts and activity. Export credit counts per month, and a log of successful account actions such as saving a project, publishing a page, or requesting an export, used to run the service and understand how it is used. Anonymous browsing is not logged.
- Feedback submissions. What you type into the feedback form, plus the page address and browser details it records, stored by our hosting provider's form service.
- Analytics. Google Analytics on the site's own pages, recording page views with query strings and fragments removed. It is not loaded on author-published book pages, and it never receives manuscript content.
- Server logs. Standard request logs kept briefly by our hosting provider.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent personal information.
- We do not read your manuscripts. Saved projects are accessed by staff only to resolve a problem you have reported.
- We do not use your manuscripts, covers, or pages to train anything.
Services that handle data on our behalf
- Neon (database and authentication): account records, saved projects, pages, usage counts.
- Netlify (hosting, serverless functions, and the feedback form).
- Google Analytics (site usage statistics).
- Resend (transactional email, such as password reset messages).
- Stripe (payments, once paid plans begin after the beta; we do not see or store card numbers).
- The stock media library is delivered from a content network; downloads are counted against your account.
Cookies
A session cookie keeps you signed in. Google Analytics sets its usual cookies on the site's own pages. No advertising cookies are used.
Published book pages
A book page you publish is public: its address, cover, blurb, and buy link are visible to anyone and to search engines, and the page is listed in the public Library. Unpublish it to remove it from public view.
Retention and deletion
Saved projects and pages stay until you delete them or your account. To delete your account and everything saved with it, ask through the contact page from the email on the account; we confirm when it is done. Feedback submissions and server logs are kept for a limited time for support and security.
Your rights
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, through the contact page. We answer within a reasonable time and without charge.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the effective date at the top changes with it and, for material changes, we notify account holders by email.
